of Alter do Chão, Arronches, Avis, Campo Maior, Castelo
de Vide, Crato, Elvas, Fronteira, Gavião, Marvão,
Monforte, Nisa, Ponte de Sor, Portalegre and Sousel. Its mission
is to promote and defend the common interests of the associated
municipalities, boosting its integrated and sustainable development,
enhancing partnerships, creating synergies and maximizing
complementarities.

Village
located in Alto Alentejo, on a plateau of the mountain of
S. Mamede and virtually surrounded by the two arms of the
mountain in Portalegre district, occupying an area of 154.6
km2. The county lies limited to the south by Portalegre municipality,
west of Castelo de Vide and the east and north borders with
Spain. It has a markedly Mediterranean climate, characterized
by a very marked dry season in summer, and rainfall is irregular.
The strands exposed to SW have warmer weather and drier than
those exposed to NE, with a cooler and humid climate.

town in the district of Portalegre, Alentejo region and subregion
of the Alentejo with about 2300 inhabitants. It is the seat
of a municipality with 264.91 km² and 3407 inhabitants.
The municipality limits the north by Spain to the east by
the municipality of Marvão, the south by the municipality
of Portalegre, Crato southwest by the municipality and the
west and northwest by the city of Nisa. The romantic nature
of Castelo de Vide village, associated with its gardens, plenty
of vegetation, mild climate and proximity to the São
Mamede mountains, became known as "Sintra of the Alentejo",
name given to King Pedro V.
